Having missed the Southern Regions Concours
in 2007, I was excited to be able to attend this year event at Highcliffe
Castle.
On arrival
at 09.15,
the setting out of the event was underway, many Porsche owners were
preparing their cars to display or show, PCB were in attendance. PCB
supports the regions events as they are the most local Porsche Centre.
Before
preparing my car for the visitors concours I took a look at the gardens of
the castle, then a look at the wonderful beach, located at the rear of the
display area. Southern region members had set
up the parking and display areas, pegging out and erecting
gazebo’s.
By 10.30
some 50+ cars were parked up with owners and the public viewing them,
chatting and taking photos. I got into a deep conversation about the drive
up from Wales by to visitors I was competing against.
Please view the pictures from the event, most cars and members are captured
in pixels.........
Highcliffe Castle had yummy catering facilities, from Al Fresco BBQ, to full
blown meals in the restaurant. Many members had brought picnics to enjoy in
the sun, sat by their prized cars. Stuart and his wife were kind enough to
offer me a share of their picnic, it was a real, lovely healthy option,
nothing in pastry in sight .............
During the event, several of us visiting from the Dorset (R26) region
enjoyed the company and surroundings, once judging had finished we all took
advantage of the yummy BBQ. Then looking at the cars PCB had displayed as
well as the displayed cars from the Southern regions, Chris Hill and David
Wood's cars demonstrating the highest level of concours standards (Meister
Class).
When we
were asked to gather for the results of the judging, we thanked all that had
supported the event, PCB and John Drake, then the events support for a
local charity, Youth Cancer Trust.
Then a raffle, with no surprise when Brett won a handbag!!!!!! And there was
me after the cleaning cloths......
There were
seven classes in the concours, I was bowled over to be awarded 1st in the
visitors class. After all the awards were presented, Chris was given a
special award/trophy for his time given to helping demonstrate, how to
prepare your car for a concours.
Once over,
many shot off, but many of us used the space for some lovely photo
opportunities the venue afforded, as well as a well needed caffeine top up
in the cafe.
Well done
R17, for hosting a wonderful event.
