| 16 Porsche and their
eager occupants set out for the event from Dorchester football club on a
yummy summer evening. We had perfect drive to the quay, no nasty speed
camera vans this year, thank you Mr camera van man. On arrival we had to Q, waiting for some time to get in, this was an indication of the number of Porsche that might already be at the quay!!!! As I arrived I was “happily” shocked to hear that some 74 cars we already parked up, wow, cars arriving, then more, till I heard 136, smashing our record of 101, last year. Once again Poole Tourism had offered the event; building on the 6 nights we had supported since PQ05, this now our 7th time supporting this prestigious event with Porsche owners coming from all over the country. As long as the car had an “official” Porsche badge on the bonnet and boot, you were invited to the party. Like-minded enthusiasts enjoying an evening together. Anne Simpson who manages the event shared her interest and excitement as the cars just kept arriving. You could see Porsche for as far as the eye could see; from the start of the quay to the very end, with the majority of the cars parked outside the Thistle Hotel, then in addition, to years before, another section of road was used and a small car park. I then heard, 151, yes, 151 Porsche at PQ10/1, I for one won’t worry if we don’t top that number, as I had been concerned about all that arrived, getting parked up….. Phew!!!!!!! We were expecting anything from 100 - 130 cars, so dumb-struck by it all unfolding in front of us. We all enjoyed a beautiful sunny evening, the wonderful cars were parked along side small boats and yachts, that wouldn’t have looked out of place moored at Monaco. As you will see in the event pictures we had almost every different road going Porsche model on show. Also every variation of Porsche “owner” enjoyed the event. From the one’s you can’t shut up with childish excitement (could that be me?) those who rev up, to those who turn up, park up and enjoy the view. Every one enjoyed viewing the boats while enjoying a coffee / beer at one of the Quay’s many coffee / bars / pub’s. I savoured meeting members and non members alike, canvassing support to attend our concours, also encouraging Dorset Porsche drivers to support R26, the Dorset region. Once again a true “family event” with many children attending. Jeff’s son Joshua, and daughter Jessica both wearing Porsche logo clothing, Jessica “4 years” proudly telling us how mummy sowed on her Porsche badge…… Also Troy, in his buggy with a 911 top….. Adults and children alike, loving the spectacle of all these Porsche
sports cars in one place, what an adult’s candy shop, yummy, sticky, melted
chocolate mice heaven! Poole Tourism did a wonderful job in arranging the cars along the harbour front and managed the whole event smoothly. As we left the Quay at 9pm we were pleased that Anne Simpson smiled (Special Events Manager from Poole Tourism) asking me not to bring more that 151 to PQ10/2!!!! I think we all could see the impending limits of our success….. she was extremely pleased and impressed how the evening went. Please enjoy a few pictures from the event. Members and public share stories of Porsche ownership and their involvement in PCGB. Another overwhelmingly successful Poole Quay event. Roll on PQ10/2 - July16th |
