Small amount of info about the Porsche Festival 2005 -

Several of us from the Dorset Region (R26) drove up together on the Bank Holiday Sunday the 28th August 2005 starting from Dorchester and stopping at Fleet Services on the way for refreshments and a chat. We enjoyed a event-less drive up and the M25 was moving well.

From the Dorset region myself and Jon placed our cars in the Street Concours Competition. We all travelled to see and enjoy the biggest gathering of Porsche cars in the UK, possible the WORLD! They were made up from Road Going, Race, Show Cars, Porsche Tractors, every variant will / was there.

SEE www.porscheclubgb.com web site for all the info. Here is an outline of what we all enjoyed during our day at brands hatch.

Porscheststrasse, the history of Porsche road cars, model by model  /  Anniversary displays: 50th Carrera; 40th 912; 30th 924; 20th Turbo SE; 10th 993 RS  /  Historic Race Cars (set out in the pits and driven on the track)  /  Full race programme  /  Pay To Take Your Porsche Round The Track  /  Porsche Cars GB display ( *This Was Amazing*)  /  Concours (Results)  /  Rally cars on the rally circuit  / Cayenne's on the off-road circuit  / Free access to the grandstands, as well as a track walk about for any one at the event  /  Carrera GT demonstration  /  Members only access to MSV centre  / Programme / Raffle in aid of the National Autistic Society, to name a few.

There were many trade exhibitors on the route from the front gates down to the drivers area. Everything you would or could EVER need for your Porsche was on sale, from Porsche Cayenne fridge magnets to REAL ones.

The weather was kind and the whole day was VERY sunny and VERY, VERY hot, (well done to all those PCGB members who gave their time to work at the event). I walked round the whole track which was a mistake, as there was no way of crossing back to the INDY circuit, so a walk back was required.

It was good to see spectators and drivers / owners from every age group, both male and female. Many children were enjoying the event with their parents and grandparents, it was a real family event.

I cooked under the sun as I prepared my Carrera 4s for the Street Concours, the competition was as hot as the sun that day, well done to all who entered in each class. It amazes me the level of commitment from some of the entrants, I want to know where some of the guys meet these women who even help prepare the car with them, RESPECT, winning combination there.

Most of the Dorset members set of for home after 5pm, the drive back was a MONSTER as a driver had put his blue Vauxhall in to a barrier on the M25. Nightmare traffic jam, very stressful as the petrol gauge said 60 miles of fuel left!

Once past that we were away to the sunny coast. After we left there were still many events and activities going on and off the track. On the Sunday evening there was Themed Gala Buffet and firework display.

Then on the final day, Monday, there was a World Record Attempt to have 500< Porsches on the Indy circuit a the same time.
