Street Car Preparation

I was parked dead ahead of the John Foulston Centre, a very impressive building that Brands Hatch Racing Track must be very proud of, as well as this position other cars were parked just over the main supply road near to the judging area.

The level of preparation was vastly different in some cases, like the drive in and wipe which is my approach, to removal of the wheels and extensive cleaning to give the impression of the car being from the show room, bit much for me. Some entrants never seemed to leave their paint work alone, all that rubbing is not good! Having said that they all look great,

Below you can select and look at the pictures of the car while it was being prepared for the Street Concours. There were over 20 cars entered for the Street Concours, ranging from 991 Coupe's and 944S2's to a current GT3.

Street Concours

When asked to drive my car to the Street Concours Judging Area I was invited to be interviewed while the team of judges looked over the car, I enjoyed being asked questions about my Porsche ownership experience, the team did a very thorough job a in a short time, very well organised.

Well done to: Shaun John and Harvey Walker on judging the cars exterior
Mike Clare on judging the cars interior
Trevor Meset on judging the cars luggage areas, also a well done to all the other PCGB members behind the scenes of the event.

Unfortunate I didn't hear the result of the event on the day, as I went on to view all the stalls around the straight area of Brands.

Event Round Up Driving to the track was straight forward, once off that M25 it was smooth driving, I had left Dorchester in Dorset at 08.10 after arranging to meet several local PCGB members for a drive up to the event, some had already travelled up at 06.30, to keen for me.

We stopped at Fleet Services on the M3 to meet up with more members, the opportunity was taken to refresh and chat before heading of again up the M3 towards the lovely M25.

We were guided to the different parts of the days events to park up, parking was very easy indeed. all the PCGB members that helped with any part of the event seemed to do a very good job, from the running of the concours events to working in the PCGB shop. The shop had a full range of club gear to buy, this must have done even better trade than normal as PORSCHE didn't seem to have their merchandise lorry on the site.

I had been looking forward to shopping in there. PORSCHE did have a display of their current cars in the temporary show room which was staffed by very smart staff.

The days track activities were a range of PORSCHE Michelin Cup races to PARADE LAPS by PCGB members in their own cars, it was very cool to see a yellow Carrera GT being put through its paces, also a lovely black 911 Turbo as a safety / pace car. Many family's were enjoying the racing and the cars on show.

The stalls around the event offered anything from ice cream to a car turn table for your drive that my friend Tref took a lot of interest in, I thought they were for trains, Tomas!

Most of us supported the event by buying the £3.00 programme and a book of the CLIC raffle tickets, this is to support the Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood Charity, a very worthy cause indeed. The prizes were very nice indeed, ranging from a holiday from Seychelles Travel and a watch from Porsche Design Watches to a rather mad offer of a ticket to the Cannonball 8000 Rally 2004, a very brave prize winner is required for that one!

Later on in the day after the noise of racing cars died down there was a black tie gala dinner followed by a spectacular fireworks display, then if that was not enough on the Monday morning after the event weekend there is to be a World Record attempt, PCGB were planning to try and have over 600 Porsches on the track (moving) and once, what a sight that would be.
